中国では雀荘は無いので誰か個人の家でプレイすることになる。この場合、お茶代として雀代を徴収する。そのかわりに料理などをふるまうという（料理を出さない家は嫌われる）。またゲーム前に何ゲームするかを決める。１束（１荘４回）を何回するかを決め、終了するまではメンバーの交代は認めない。主人側がときに交代することはあっても客が途中で抜けるなどは認められない。このへんは日本人とは文化の違いで興味深いところである。日本なら「仕事だから」などの理由で退席は認められるが中国では逆に麻雀をしていて仕事に遅れるなどは許容範囲（もちろん良くないことではあるが）とされるようである。
